I am not a fish & chips guy. If I’m in London, well… So when I found myself in the delightful Lake Michigan outpost of Charlevoix, I knew that I could not leave without trying the regional specialty: whitefish. Enter The Villager Pub. I ordered the standard and went with two pieces, not three. Good thing. Look at the size of those! The batter was crispy. The fish tender and moist beneath. The fries hit exactly the right notes of salt and crunch. And I even enjoyed the slaw, usually a bit player in these matters. The dish was as good as it looks. And they have a great bar and sports TV. Who does Michigan play this week? This would be the place to watch.
