A slice of pecan pie – if not too sweet – is desert island and diet-busting worthy. While traveling though Lexington, Virginia, we discovered the aptly-named Southern Inn, right in the heart of downtown. We couldn’t wait to order dessert (after we chowed down on their fried chicken first, of course). The pie was perfection: extremely nutty and chewy, not overly sweet and not in the least bit syrupy. It was topped with two sauces – caramel and vanilla – as well as whipped cream, which added more flavor layers to every bite. The crowning creative glory was the house-made toasted marshmallows which I know my Southern MawMaws would love.
