Joe Pesci playing a Queens lawyer in the deep south put grits on the map for an entire movie-going generation in "My Cousin Vinny." You can Google the hysterical scene or simply head up to Harlem and form your own opinion, because they are doing it right at BLVD. Look beneath those eggs. Hidden from view but evident in every bite is a creamy, almost tapioca-like patty of grits with a slightly burnt cheddar cheese topping. Be sure to include a zesty forkful of crispy fried catfish in that bite and you have found Southern nirvana 3 blocks from the New York City subway. (If catfish isn't your thing, hit 'em with the jumbo shrimp!) Lastly, consider the buttermilk biscuit. They serve it with a condiment they call sugar cane syrup butter, which I believe the verb "slathering" was invented for. Is it as good as it sounds? We had to ask for a second ramekin full. I am certain we were not the first.
