I don’t know about you, but when I go out to dinner I usually like to order something I do NOT cook at home. Roast chicken, for example. So despite everyone else ordering pasta dishes at this acclaimed Italian restaurant in DC’s Navy Yard, I was the outlier. As the pastas arrived – each plateful more fragrant than the last—I wondered if I’d made a mistake. But then my chicken flew in. It was redolent of bright fresh herbs and smoked spices served atop a bed of al dente farro and a sauce of roasted chestnuts and hen of the woods mushrooms. Bellissimo! The portion is substantial (half a bird) making it a great dish to split or share. On this damp wintry night, if I hadn’t filled up on the beautiful burrata appetizer I’d have devoured it all. Instead, my college daughter got the fabulous leftovers. Lucky girl.
