It's crazy that people can still be so dismissive of vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary-specific restaurants, particularly as they have some of the best food. Case in point: Nix, which by the way is the owner of a Michelin Star. (Now you're listening, aren't you?) Before going, I read the menu and was pretty sure that the Market Scramble would be my move, and it did not disappoint. As its name implies, this is a souped-up scrambled eggs dish, one that comes with beech mushrooms, peppers, kale and habanero aioli mixed in, topped with what I can only describe as friseéd potatoes (there was no mention of this on the menu so I'm taking liberties). The mushrooms, peppers, and kale were soft but not soggy, while the habanero aioli gave it a bright pop – but watch out, some bites were hot! My only gripe is that I was raised on egg whites and much to the chagrin of #yolkporn lovers everywhere, yolks are just not my jam. For a restaurant that is vegan and can accommodate gluten-free diners, I was shocked that my waitress looked at me as if I had ten heads when I asked if it was possible to do the scramble with egg whites. Long story short: It was whole eggs for me. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will definitely be returning.
