There are a lot of places where you can get a great bowl of phó  in San Francisco, but in my experience, Kevin’s Noodle House (Phó  Huynh Hiep) ranks supreme. When you walk in, prepare to wait 15 minutes or so. But about a minute after you sit down the waiter will come up to you with an iPad and once you order, don’t expect to wait more than 5-10 minutes for your meal. Kevin’s is a powerhouse of great Vietnamese food and at $6-7 a bowl it attracts families, the young and the elderly alike, because almost anyone can be happy with their selection. The traditional and best phó flavors are typically the beef broth soups, which come with a variety of options for cuts of meat. I prefer # 17 or #13, thin slices of rare beef or mixed cuts. The bowl of phó  comes with cilantro and onions on top of vermicelli noodles. However, you can always get seafood or chicken broth as an option, as well. Their phó always includes a side of fresh basil, jalapeños, bean sprouts, and fresh lime. I typically season with chili oil, hoisin and fish sauce, and there’s nothing more comforting to eat on a cold, San Francisco day.
