There are hundreds of amazing bites in our foodie city, but here’s a family favorite. We usually visit on Sunday for dim sum and spend about $25 to fill us all up. It's called Shanghai Dumpling King – a little hole in the wall on Monterey Avenue.
These Shanghai steamed dumplings arrive in a basket of ten and are served with a vinegary, soy, garlic dipping sauce and a spoon. Let the dumplings cool for just a minute and then pick one up gently so as not to break the skin. Use your chopsticks, place it in the spoon, and slurp to experience a burst of soup and gingery goodness. Sure, you can go to the fancy spots where there are tablecloths, lots of tourists, and a long wait, but why pay 5 times more when you can have the best?
Oh, and they have bags of frozen dumplings you can take home. AND, the snow pea shoots with a hint of garlic are a good side dish!
