Spice is key. So is getting messy. And of course, you need ice cold beer. It’s crab time at Canton Dockside in Baltimore. And though I paid $110 for a dozen, the jumbos we splurged on were worth every penny. Meaty. Full of flavor. Steamed to order. And armed with a rock salt in the seasoning that clears out the sinuses. Hard shell crabs, if you’ve never had them, are an experience. When else do you get to eat with your hands and bang on your dinner with a mallet? Plus it extends the usual one-hour family meal into a three hour feast. For a girl born and raised in Baltimore, it’s a summer rite of passage. For everyone else, I highly recommend it.
